Theola M. Sands, age 90, of Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. Theola was born on November 24, 1927, in Tracy Valley of rural Osseo, WI, to Carl and Olga (Axelson) Edmundson. She attended Tracy Valley School and then went to Lincoln Hill High School, graduating in 1944. Theola worked as a waitress until attending vocational school in Eau Claire. She then worked at Huebsch Laundry for 22 years. In 1970, Theola married Orwin Sands and his family became her family to love and to cherish. Theola and Orwin lived in Carlsbad, NM for over 10 years. Upon moving back to Eau Claire, Theola was an active member at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, participating in Bible Study, The Care Team and Just Because Baskets. Additionally, she served on the board for Women of Good Shepherd and headed the funeral committee at church. She has provided many baked goods for various church events and enjoyed giving a piece of happiness to somebody in need. Theola enjoyed traveling, making lefsa, celebrating her heritage, and had great love for animals. Her family was very dear to her. Survived by daughter, Kari (Mike) Helminski; grandson, Curt (Karla) Sims; granddaughter, Jacque (Greg) Jakubek; great-grandchildren, Michael and Kyle Sims and Justin and Jordyn Jakubek; great-great-grandchild, Atticus Sims; and nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Orwin; parents; siblings, Minnie (Arthur) Thoen, Orville Edmundson, Mary (Oscar) Franson, Lillian (Gilman) Nelson, Selma (Albert) Franson; a niece and nephews; sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Alfred) Clish, Beatrice (Jim) Larson; brother-in-law, Charles Sands. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar Street, Eau Claire, with Pastor Josh Toufar officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will take place in Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is assisting her family with arrangements.
