Therese Ann Thompson, 83, of Cuba City, WI, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Southwest Health Center in Platteville with her family by her side. She was born in La Crosse, WI, on Dec. 14, 1924, the daughter of Frank and Marion Guentner. Therese grew up in La Crosse and graduated from Aquinas High School. She married Gjeruld Thompson in 1946. They later divorced. Therese worked for many years for Trane Company of La Crosse as a office manager. She later attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute (now WWTC) in La Crosse and graduated with a Registered Nurse Degree. She went on to work at Lutheran Hospital as an RN for several years before moving to Cuba City in the mid 1980's to be closer to her family and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She worked for 25 years for her son&daughter-in-law at Mark's IGA Foods (now Thompson's Foods) as the deli department manager in Cuba City and Dodgeville until her retirement. In her free time Therese loved swimming in her back yard swimming pool with her family and gambling at the boat. She was a long time member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she participated in the church music for many years. She was a former member of the Cuba City EMS. Therese will be remembered as a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all those who came to know her and her incredible sense of humor. Therese is survived by a daughter, Kathryn (Robert) Travis of Oregon; two sons, Mark (Trish) of Cuba City, and Robin (Karen) of McFarland; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Erik, Matthew, Bradley, Jennifer, Casey, Becky and Jon: Ten great grand children; two brothers, Father Frank Guentner of St. Louis, Mo; Robert Guentner of Baltimore, Md; a sister Mary Aldrich of Kansas City, Mo; and by many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joel Thompson; a brother Charles Guentner;and her parents. Funeral services for Therese will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Fr. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be later in the spring at the La Crosse Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home in Cuba City. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be directed to the St. Rose Catholic Church Music Ministry in her memory. The family would especially like to thank the very kind and caring staff at Southwest Health Center in Cuba City for the wonderful care they have shown Therese over the past several years.
