THORVALD P. FAANES, 69, of 3318 Locust Lane, died Friday, September 12, 1997 at Luther Hospital. He was born December 28, 1927 in Chetek,Wisconsin to Oscar and Helen (Hanson) Faanes and was raised in Barron and Dallas. Thorvald joined the U.S. Army during World War II and served to his country in the Pacific Theater until his honorable discharge in April 1946.\r\nOn October 12, 1951, he married Edna Marie Felton of Eau Claire, whom he had met while they were both working at Hotel Eau Claire. Thorvald worked 35 years for Pope and Talbot until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and VFW Post #305. \r\nSurvivors include his wife, Edna; seven daughters, Janet (Marvin) Thompson, Helen (Robert) Skrukrud, Mary (Randall) Westerberg , Diane (Robert) Thomas and Pamela Faanes all of Eau Claire, Rose (Robin) Berg of Ladysmith and Kim (fiance,Robert Bauer) Faanes of Eleva; 13 very special grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Oscar (Betty) , Bernard, and Maynard (Joann) Faanes all of Eau Claire; a sister, Sandra (Robert) Donovan of Silverton,OR; many loving nieces and nephews; and his buddy in games of fetch, Coco.\r\nThorvald was preceded in death by his son, John in 1980, his parents and a sister, Clara.\r\nHis family will remember their special times of hunting and fishing together and his enjoyment of watching the Packers and other sporting events.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark A. Olson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery with VFW Post #305 conducting military graveside rites. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. VFW Post #305 will have a veterans service, 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.\r\nWe will love and miss you forever Dad.
