Valerie Caroline Melhus, 75, of Savannah, TN, and formerly of Eau Claire and California, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 in Modesto, CA while visiting her family. She was born in Eau Claire on April 15, 1928, the daughter of Michael&Clara (Yager) Dascher. \r\nShe graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1947. Valerie married James A. Melhus in Eau Claire on September 20, 1947. They moved to La Crosse in 1949, and then to California in 1956, where they resided until 2000. \r\nSurvivors include her husband, James; two sons, Steven of Savannah, TN and Michael (Barbara) of Fremont, CA; a daughter, Joan (Steve) Chincarini, of Ceres, CA; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Harland (Viola) Dascher of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Dascher of Broomfield, CO, and Doris Dascher of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Doyle, LaMoine and Albury Dascher. \r\nFuneral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Pastor Arne E. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
