Velma Lucile Grutt, 84, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.\r\nShe was born January 24, 1922, in the Town of Stanton, rural Dunn County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank and Doretta (Smith) Grutt. \r\nVelma attended and graduated from Boyceville High School and went on to attend Palmer Technical College. Following her schooling, she moved to Eau Claire and worked at United Rubber Co. where she worked for over 40 years until her retirement.\r\nVelma was a long time member of Chapel Heights United Methodist Church, where she was involved in choir, church circles, bible school, and many other various activities.\r\nShe loved to brag that she graduated high school with Andy Pafko, then, an aspiring future major leaguer in baseball.\r\nAmong her many hobbies were crafts, scrap booking, golfing, and people watching. She loved to travel, most notably to Munich for Oktoberfest and also her cruises to many countries. Spending time with her family was very important to her. Velma's great grand nieces and nephews adored her.\r\nShe is survived by her niece, Diane (John) Zurbuchen of Eau Claire; her grand nephews, Tate (Paula) Zurbuchen, and Jesse (Amy) Zurbuchen, both of Elk Mound; her great grand nieces and nephews, Ali, Makenna, Noah, Kourtney, and Ryan Zurbuchen, all of Elk Mound. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Carmen Schlottman.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Jim McKay officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.\r\nMemorials are preferred to Chapel Heights United Methodist Church, 300 East Hamilton Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701.\r\n
