Obituary

Verna M. Hageness, 83, of Eau Claire died Thursday, November 29, 2001 at Luther Hospital. She was born on November 2, 1918 to Albert and Anna (Fethke) Buchholz in the Town of Clear Creek. \r\nVerna married Marvin C. Hageness on March 18, 1939 in Foster. She was employed at the Ordinance Plant at National Presto Industries during WWII. She also worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's small business in Wausau, where they lived for four years. They moved back to Eau Claire where Verna was employed for several years at Montgomery Wards.\r\nShe was a very active member of First Lutheran Church.\r\nVerna was a wonderful wife, mother, and caregiver, always giving and helping others, for which she received the WEAU- TV Sunshine Award.\r\nSurvivors include her son, Allen (Mary Jo) of New Franken; three daughters, Mary (Robert) McMahon of LaCrosse, Jane Hageness of Eau Claire, and Sharon (Jerry) Sather of Charles Town, WV; a sister, Mildred (Harvey) Krueger, Englewood, FL; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 1988; her parents; two brothers, Julius and Elgard; and a sister, Elsie Rickard.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2001 at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nThe family requests memorials be directed to First Lutheran Church.\r\nVerna loved her Lord, her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
