Obituary

Vernon E. Dewitz, 87, of Eau Claire died Monday, March 8, 2010, at his home. He was born in the Town of Seymour, Wisconsin, on June 24, 1922, a son of Edward and Frances (Finlayson) Dewitz. \r\nHe entered the U.S. Army on January 14, 1943, serving in the China-Burma-India Theater, and was honorably discharged on January 15, 1946. \r\nVernon married Hope Nelson on February 23, 1946, in Osseo.\r\nHe worked 39 years for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, retiring as a Locomotive Engineer in 1984.\r\nVernon was a lifetime member of the United Transportation Union Local 1293.\r\nHe was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and Carl Nelson Legion Post 324.\r\nVernon is survived by his seven children, Kay Vold of Osseo, Mary Jo (Marv) Lunde of Eau Claire, Paul Dewitz of Birchwood, Deborah (Dick) Arnold of Fairfield, IA, Kim (Rod) Bagley of Eau Claire, Eric (Kalynn) Dewitz and Chris Dewitz (Julie Opichka) both of Osseo; ten grandchildren, Scott (Kelly) Vold, Trevor (Amy) Vold, Aaron (Lynn) Vold all of Osseo, Kyra (Aaron) Pasche of Crystal, MN, Matt Lunde (Hannah Dittner) of Eau Claire, Peter Arnold of Fairfield, IA, Laura and Kirsten Bagley both of Madison, Jake and Taylor Dewitz both of Rochester,MN; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Drew, Ian, Carter, and Hayden Vold, and Evan Pasche; two brothers, Gordon (Verna) Dewitz of Osseo and Loren (Bonee) Dewitz of Eau Claire; three brothers-in-law, Harold Matz of Eau Claire, Howard (Jane) Nelson of Milaca, MN and Jerry (Mary) Nelson of Clitherall, MN; a sister-in-law, Grace Nelson Most of Osseo; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hope in 2007; sister, Lois Matz; four brothers-in-law, Robert, Richard&William Nelson, and Norman Hoyme; and three sisters-in-law, Winifred Nelson, Delories Nelson, and Lucy May Hoyme.\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010, at Hope Lutheran Church, with Pastor Randy Olson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at Hope Lutheran Church, 2226 Eddy Lane, Eau Claire, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral&Cremation Services is serving his family.
