Grant, Vernon L., 83, of Eau Claire died Monday, September 16, 2013 at home surrounded with his family at his side. He was born December 22, 1929 to Edwin and Vera Grant in Royal Oak, Michigan. He grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. He served 23 years. He then worked for Land O'Lakes until retiring in 1985. In his retirement he volunteered cooking for the Elks Lodge 402 Community Table, VFW Post 10405, Eau Claire Jazz Festival and wherever cooking was needed. Vern had a passion for cooking, which he shared with his family and many friends. He married Mary Kathryn Schuch in 1981. Vern is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy of 32 years; daughter, Tina (Steven) Lutz of Brighten, MI; son, Timothy Grant of Bradenton, FL; daughter, Jodie (Rick) Koger of Elk Mound, WI; son, Patrick (Jennifer) Schuch of Elk Mound, WI; son, Michael Schuch of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Phillip (Amber) Lutz of Ann Arbor, MI., Jordan (Amber) Lutz of Howell, MI; grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Koger of Elk Mound, Wi., Celee and Leela Schuch of Eau Claire,Wi., Josh (Christina) Swartz of South Whitley, IN, Jacob (Sheleen) Swartz of Menomonie, WI; great-grandchildren, Savannah Lutz, Aiden Lutz, Noel and Leon Swartz, Wyatt and Carmen Adams. Brother Gordon Grant of Royal Oak, MI. Vern is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Vera; brothers, Brian and Ellis; sisters, Callilily and Madeleine. The family would like to thank Dr. Rich and Patty Horecki, Amy, Sam, Pete, Marcie, Rod, Gary, Dan and St. Joseph Home Heath and Hospice for all the love and support they have given to Vern and his family in his final days. Funeral services will be Friday, September 20, 2013, at 12 p.m. at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2405 11th Street in Eau Claire, WI. Family and friends may call on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Spooner, WI at a later date.
