Vernon E. "Whitey" Hanson, 61, formerly of 220 6th St. West, Altoona, died Saturday, June 15, 1996 at the Syverson Lutheran Home. He was born in Eau Claire to Henry and Clara (Gilbertson) Hanson on November 6, 1934. Vernon's family will remember his love for playing cards, hunting and fishing, and how he enjoyed his many long walks throughout Eau Claire and Altoona.\r\nSurvivors include his mother, Clara of Altoona; a brother, Robert Hanson of New Minor; three nieces, Gladys (Doug) Barber of Eau Claire, Mary Melsness of Altoona and Holly Hanson of Sturtevant; a cousin, Katheryne (Tom) Franson of Eau Claire.\r\nVernon was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Evelyn Miller and Madeline Flynn; and a niece, Patty Bilderback.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 7 P.M. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home with Pastor Gene E. Wickman officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
