Obituary

Veronica R. Branshaw, 78, of Eau Claire, died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at her home after struggling with cancer. She was born in Brooten, MN on February 5, 1925, the daughter of Nickolas and Louise (Berger) Glieden. After her mother's death, she moved to Medford, at the age of nine to live with her aunt, Annie (Art) Linzner, her mother's sister. Veronica married Frank L. Brandner on August 11, 1945 in Whittlesey. She later married Robert C. Branshaw on June 10, 1961 in Stillwater, MN. She waitressed for 13 years in Eau Claire at Crosstown Café, Wally's Swiss Chalet, Whitehouse, Stafne's and the Holiday Inn. Her first out of the home job was driving children to school in Medford and last was as a bus driver for Eau Claire Student Transit, retiring in 1980. Veronica was independent and self reliant, and worked to instill these virtues in her children. She was a "handy woman" and had no fear of failure. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Marcia Brandner and Mary Walsh both of Eau Claire; two sons, Duane (Kathryn) Brandner of Eau Claire and Robert James Branshaw of Hudson; a step-son, Charles Branshaw of Eau Claire; a step-daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Brantner of Edgerton; four grandchildren, Mike Phillips of Whitehall, Mary (Brett) Carey of Hudson, and Rebecca and Benjamin Brandner, both of Eau Claire; two step-grandchildren, Jodie (Ted) Gorski and Jill Brantner; two great-grandchildren Amanda and Julia Carey; a brother, George (Marie) Glieden of Belgrade, MN; and two sisters, Margaret Walsh of Litchfield, MN and Catherine (Doug) Larson of Roseville, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a daughter, Donna Marie Phillips in 1988; and a brother, Joe Berger. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2003 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Father Edmund Klimek officiating.
