Vicki Lee Hess, 69, of Eau Claire died on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Angel Space after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 25, 1939 and a graduate of Eau Claire Senior High School in 1957. She then went on to graduate from college in Montana as a Medical Technologist.\r\nVicki served as a Captain in the US Army for 5 years and then worked at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco California before joining the World Health Organization. Her two year tour with "WHO" was spent on the mid-pacific ocean island of Tarawa in Kiribati. She was also an amateur ham radio operator and enjoyed studying astrology and hand writing analysis. She was happy to visit with friends at her family's business, "The Last Chance Bar". However, Tarawa was the joy of Vicki's life and filled her remaining years with unfulfilled dreams of returning to visit there once again.\r\nShe is survived by her brother in Reno, Nevada, William D. (Adele) Hess; niece, Angela (Glen) Christensen; nephews, William B. (Grace) and John P. (Elizabeth) Hess; great nieces, Taylor and Kayci Christensen; great nephews, William L. and John A. Hess; uncle, Harold Lloyd Bradford; and many dear cousins. \r\nVicki was preceded in death by her parents, William L. Hess and her devoted mother Vivian I. (Bradford) Hess; and grandparents Melvin and Ida Bradford. \r\nVicki was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and the American Legion. \r\nIn accordance with her wishes a private family graveside service will be held.\r\nThe family members would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, Angel Space, caring friends, and her many doctors for their effort and support during the long and difficult struggle with her health issues.\r\n
