Vincent Guy Dopkins, 87, of Eau Claire died Monday, February 25, 2013, at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire. He was born April 7th, 1925, in Beldenville, WI, the son of Nellie (Hurley) and Merle Dopkins. He graduated from Durand High school in 1942. Vince married Rosemary Kremer at Immaculate Conception Church on May 10, 1948. Together they raised 5 children. In Eau Claire, he worked as a meat cutter for Peters and Randall's grocery for over 25 years. He was an active member of Sacred Heart/St Patrick's parish. He spent many years preparing the ham dinner for Sacred Heart's annual bazaar. Vince was most proud of being a World War II Veteran. He enjoyed telling stories of the time he served on the USS Savo Island aircraft carrier. He was also a member of the VFW. He enjoyed spending time baking and gardening. Vincent is survived by five children, Jean Butterfield (Fleet) of Strum, Mary (Richard) Girnau of Eau Claire, Jim (Mary Jo) Dopkins of Hudson, Pat Dopkins of Eau Claire, Sue(Mike) Court of Oconomowoc; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie Miles, Joanne (Bill) Perham, and Shirley Kremer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; his parents; and his two sisters, Sr. Arita Josephine Dopkins, and Rita Dopkins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March, 1, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 416 N. Dewey St. in Eau Claire with Father William A. Dhein officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., in Eau Claire, with a Public Prayer Vigil beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the Mass on Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Eau Claire with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 305.
