Obituary

Viola Adeline Broberg, 90, of the Town of Brunswick, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Mayo Health System in Eau Claire. Viola was born in the Town of Peru, Dunn County, WI, on November 6, 1923, the daughter of T. Samuel Jackson and Olga (Lau) Jackson. She was baptized on February 9, 1924, and confirmed on November 28, 1937. She graduated from Durand High School on June 16, 1941, and married her high school sweetheart, Leslie O. Broberg, at Meridean Lutheran Church on June 16, 1945. Together they began farming in the Town of Brunswick, and she was so proud to remain on that original farm throughout her life. Viola was a faithful and active member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Her greatest legacy is her Christian faith which she quietly lived and passed on to her Sunday school students, youth groups, and her own children. Viola loved to spend time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking, always bringing Christmas cookies, rice cream, and chocolate bundt cakes for family celebrations. Viola retired from the Mayo Health System, formerly Luther Hospital, after thirty-six years of service. She was Secretary to the Administrator for several of those years and later assisted Pastor Mike Carlson in developing the chaplaincy program at the hospital. Viola is survived by her two children, Sharon (Henry) Schank of Altoona and Dean (Penny) Broberg of Hayward; five grandchildren, Lisa (Karl) Kundel, Brad (Misty) Stewart, Michelle (Justin) Farner, Curtis Broberg, Rachael (Scott) Morton; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Stanley (Doris) Broberg; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Hayden and Carol Broberg, all of Rock Falls. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews and adored each and every one. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, George (Inga) Jackson and Albert (Judith) Jackson; one sister, Esther (Clarence) Moen; brothers-in-law, Gordon (Elsie) Broberg and Russell (Katie) Broberg; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy (George) Kent and Mildred (Robert) Kurtz. The family would like to thank Dr. William Maierhofer, Dr. Richard Hanna, and all the doctors and nurses at Mayo Health System in Eau Claire for the exceptional care she received. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 23, 2014, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, N1101 810th St. Mondovi, with Pastor Michelle Nickodemus officiating.
