Obituary

Viola M. Dascher, 87, of Altoona, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, with her family surrounding her under the care of Northwest Hospice at Country Terrace Assisted Living.\r\nShe was born in St. Paul, MN, on October 25, 1921, the daughter of Clifford and Florence (Schak) Segerstrom.\r\nViola married the love of her life, Harland Dascher at the Pentecostal Church on December 2, 1939, in Eau Claire. He passed away on April 18, 2005.\r\nAfter the war, Harland and Viola opened the Gold Ribbon Restaurant in 1949 which later became the Hi Dine in the late 1950's, which they operated until 1967. In 1969 she managed Henry's Drive In Restaurant in Altoona until 1971. From 1972 to 1976 they ran Dash's Hi Dine. From 1976 to 1980 they ran the Westerner Restaurant. She was faithful to her church and her family.\r\nViola loved collecting dolls, reading from the bible, and she loved baking and cooking. She was well known for her pie making, especially strawberry and peach.\r\nViola was a longtime member of Apostolic Faith Church in Eau Claire. \r\nSurvivors include three sons, Harland, Jr. of Machesney Park, IL, Jarrette of Eau Claire, and Albin (Terri) of Eau Claire; daughter, Sharran (Richard) Balts of Eau Claire; twelve grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Ira) Ida of Eau Claire.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harland; one grandchild, Dawn Balts; a brother, Lloyd Segerstrom; and her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Dascher.\r\nFuneral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2008, at Apostolic Faith Church with Pastor Carl Trapani officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire. Family and friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nThe family would like to extend their thanks to Country Terrace in Altoona for their special care.
