Virgil A. McElwaine, 78, of Eau Claire, died Sunday, October 31, 2010, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.\r\nHe was born in Ladysmith, WI on February 14, 1932, a son of Virgil and Eunice (Bruyette) McElwaine.\r\nVirgil served in the US Navy until his honorable discharge.\r\nVirgil married Joan Patraz Champion on May 10, 1963, at Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. \r\nHe worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 37 years, until his retirement on March 2, 1992.\r\nVirgil enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting, and was an avid reader.\r\nVirgil is survived by his wife, Joan; a son, Duane (Jen) Champion; three grandchildren, Shawn, Treyton, and Sage; and a sister, Joyce Falstad. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents. \r\nGraveside services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington, with Pastor Randy Olson officiating.
