Obituary

Virginia "Dolly" Adeline (Erickson) Casper, of Eau Claire, WI, peacefully passed away Friday, August 16, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, WI, due to complications from Alzheimer's. She was born December 31, 1925, in Pleasant Valley, WI, to Adolph O. and Cora A (Peterson) Erickson. Virginia was raised and attended school in Eau Claire. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She married Steven Casper July 28, 1945, at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. They moved to Milwaukee for a few years and returned to Eau Claire to raise their daughter, Margaret. Virginia worked at Presto Industries "the cooker", Hotel Eau Claire as a waitress and Peters Meats in Eau Claire. Virginia was family orientated; as family was an important part of her life. She was one of the first members of the family to start Gram's birthday/ Erickson family reunion which is still going strong after 44 years. She enjoyed singing, dancing, playing the harmonica, visiting, entertaining, attending church functions and traveling. One of her favorite trips was going to Europe with the 2nd Indianhead Division where her husband, Steve, and her toured the Battle of the Buldge. Virginia was an excellent cook and baker; canned beets was one of her specialties. The coffee pot was always on for family and friends and she had many family gatherings at her house. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Margaret Gilbertson; granddaughter, Tara (Tim) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Ashley (Jose) Garcia, and Steven Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Elijah, Mariana and Adrian; one sister and four brothers, Janet Andrews, David (Fabby) Erickson, Stanley (Darlene Bauman), Donald (Mona) Erickson, Robert (Marjorie) Erickson; and sister-in-law, Joyce Erickson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Steven Casper; son-in-law, John Gilbertson Jr; parents, Adolph and Cora Erickson; two sisters, Evelyn Erickson and Audrey (Lorn) Frandsen; five brothers, Adolph, Harold, Gordon, Marshall "Mushy" and Gerald "Chub" Erickson; four sisters-in-law, Arlene, Helen, Sheri and Marlene Erickson. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire, WI, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave in Eau Claire with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire followed by a luncheon at First Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank the 4th floor staff at Luther Hospital for their excellent care and compassion for Virginia.
