Obituary

Virginia A. Derouin, age 94, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton, with her children by her side. She was born in Eau Claire, on November 14, 1917, the daughter of Emil and Bertha (Fletschock) Wenzel. On September 3, 1938, Ginny married Delos "Deed" Derouin at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire. She is survived by her five children, Sharon (Richard) Girolamo of Harmony, MN, Tom (Kathy) of Overland Park, KS, Dale (Lois) of Dallas, OR, Don (Sharon) of Mapleton, MN and Debbie (Don) Ponti of Stoughton; 11 grandchildren, Dan (Sheri) Girolamo, Ann (Joe) Draffkorn, Mike (Shelly) Girolamo, Andrea (Rick) Bechtel, Stephanie (Mark) Kowalski, Stacy (Chris Kapetanopoulos) Derouin, Tim (Julie Rapoport) Derouin, Dana (Chad) Bratsch, Nick Derouin, Pat (Rena Archwamety) Humphrey and Joanna (Ryan) Sheets; step grandchildren, Lisa (Tony) Roman and Tony Ponti; and 12 great-grandchildren. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Deed in 1984; son-in-law, David Humphrey in 1984; and brother, Bernie (Betty) Wenzel. Ginny always took great joy in her children and grandchildren (and great grandchildren), putting others before herself. In her younger years, she enjoyed visiting family from coast to coast. She also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and following Badger sports and politics. She never missed an opportunity to vote or participate in political activities, including signing recent recall petitions. A memorial Mass will be held June 23, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 316 Fulton Street, Eau Claire, with visitation one hour before the Mass. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Parish in Eau Claire, WI, Skaalen Nursing Home in Stoughton or Agrace Hospice Care, Madison/Janesville. A special thank you to Dr. Michael Frontiera at the Dean Hematology/Oncology Clinic, the wonderful and\r\ncaring staff at Skaalen Nursing Home, Agrace Hospice and for the visits from Msgr. Healey and others at St. Ann's parish. Mom, we were blessed to have you with us for many years and have lots of wonderful memories. Thanks for being such a great Mom and Grandma. You will be in our hearts forever. We love you.
