Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Lien (Lindgren) passed away in her home on March 16, 2026 at the age of 73. Born to parents Russel and Virgie (Heinz) Lindgren in Rice Lake, Wisconsin on May 21, 1952, Ginny was the 5th of 10 siblings. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1970 and attended University of Wisconsin River Falls, where she earned her Bachelors of Science in secondary education. She taught at Thorp High School for 5 years, where she met her husband, David Lien. Ginny and Dave got married on February 18, 1978 in Hudson, Wisconsin. In 1980, Betsy was born, shortly followed by Amelia in 1982. Ginny devoted the next decade to raising the girls. In 1992, Ginny went back to work full time as a preschool teacher at Noah's Ark Preschool, which she retired from 26 years later in 2018.

Ginny dedicated her life to her family and to her lifelong mission of spreading joy. Her vibrant spirit was often represented through tie-dye, peace signs, and rainbows. She was heavily involved with Trinity Lutheran Church, having served both as the council president and leadership in children's ministries where she inspired a legacy of peacemaking. She served the community through organizations such as Friends of Flynn and Special Olympics. Ginny and Dave shared a love for travel and have spent their retirement having the adventures of a lifetime, traveling to Australia and New Zealand, Iceland, Alaska, Norway, Egypt, Antarctica, and more. She would find joy in discovering new food and recipes, reading books with her book club, and getting messy with arts and crafts. Ginny especially loved being a grandma to Emma and Kolden. She enjoyed every minute she shared with them and treasured following and supporting them in all of their activities.

Ginny is survived by her husband David Lien, daughters Betsy Johnson and Amelia Lien, grandchildren Emma (18) and Kolden (15) Johnson, and her siblings Danny (Susan) Lindgren, David (Gretchen) Lindgren, Bonnie (David) Kallberg, Tim Lindgren, Cyndee (Stuart Schultz) Lindgren, Jan (Dan) Malaney, Becky (Kurt) Taylor, Lisa (Jim) Malaney, and Paul (Karen) Lindgren, sister-in-law Marie (Shannon) Barrett, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Homer and Ruth Lien, sister-in-law Beth Lindgren, and nephew Tyler Schultz.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, March 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 East Lexington Blvd, Eau Claire, with Pastor Tom Westcott officiating. Visitation will be from 4pm - 7pm on Sunday, March 22 at the WEST CHAPEL-Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services, 1405 N. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire and again one hour prior to the service at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ginny's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity Lutheran Church (Friends of Flynn) or Feed My People would be greatly appreciated.
