Yvonne "Vonnie" Nelson Wangen, age 73, of Naples, Florida, died peacefully at her home in Eau Claire on Saturday, August 14, 2010, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with peritoneal cancer. Vonnie was born in Evansville, MN on January 30, 1937, the daughter of Erwin and Mildred (Carlson) Nelson. She attended Evansville public school, and was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Evansville. After graduating from Evansville High School in 1955, Vonnie worked for an accounting firm in Fergus Falls, MN. She then moved to Minneapolis, MN and while attending the University of Minnesota, she was a sales associate for Bell Telephone Co. and later a customer service representative for North Central Airlines. Vonnie married Warren T. Wangen on June 13, 1964 in Minneapolis. In 1968, they moved to Mt. Prospect, IL, continued promotions led them to Eau Claire, Lincolnshire, IL, and to Eau Claire again in 1978. Vonnie was a volunteer for the altar guild at Trinity Lutheran Church, and was treasurer for the Eau Claire Figure Skating Club for a few years. She was a member of the Eau Claire Community Foundation, its Society of Founders and Women's Giving Circle, and was a life member of the Luther Hospital Samaritan Club. While serving the Friends of Luther Hospital, she spent time on the board of directors as treasurer, and many years in the Luther Hospital Gift Shop. Vonnie enjoyed the fellowship of her PEO Sisterhood Chapter CH, acting as treasurer for two years. Vonnie is survived by Warren, her husband of 46 years; their two daughters Lisa (Jeff) Roberts of Carmel, IN, and Cindy (Scott) Webb of Eau Claire, WI; four grandsons, William and Andrew Roberts, and David and Adam Webb; her sister Elaine (Dean) Elmer of Evansville, MN, their children Susan (Jay) Anderson and children, and Wayne (Kimberly) Elmer and children; as well as many Wangen relatives and friends. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Kurt M. Jacobson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington Blvd., Eau Claire. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire prior to services at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family.
