Warren John "Pete" Guettinger, 88, died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Dove Healthcare West, with his family at his side. Pete was born on February 17, 1927, in Cochrane, WI, a son of Raymond and Esther (Herold) Guettinger. He attended Cochrane Schools and after the death of his father and brother, Gordon, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, and served in the Pacific Theatre throughout World War II. Upon returning to the area, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in pharmacy. After graduation, he married his favorite girl, Marjorie Dittrich, at St. John's Church in Winona, MN, on June 17, 1950. They moved to LaCrosse, WI, for one year where their first son, Jeff, was born in 1951. After moving to Eau Claire, their second son, John, was born in 1955. In Eau Claire, he began his career as a pharmacist at Jensen Drug Store. He worked at and eventually owned the store for the next 43 years, until his retirement. He knew and cared for his customers deeply, helping them in any way he could. He had a deep bond to the 9th Ward, where his store was located and was known as "Doctor Pete" by his customers. During his life, he volunteered for various organizations, including Meals on Wheels and St. James the Greater Catholic Church, where they were lifelong members. As a dedicated father and family man, he used his wisdom to teach his children and grandchildren the ways of life, which he learned at a very young age. We will all miss his wisdom and wit. Pete is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marjorie; sons, Jeff (Cheryl) and John (Kimberly); grandchildren, Ariane (Keith) Wyman, Chelsea (Eric) Walker and McKenna Guettinger; great-grandchildren, Miles and Emanuela; and a brother, Ralph. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Dittrich and Bill Dittrich; and sister-in-law, Irma Guettinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 p.m. Noon, on Friday, April 10, 2015, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St., Eau Claire, with Fr. Tom Krieg officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
