William D. "Dave" McSorley, 93, of Eau Claire, died at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Dave was born in Eau Claire on August 3, 1921. He was the son of William D. McSorley and Elsie M. (Strobel) McSorley. Dave graduated from St. Patrick High School in Eau Claire in 1939, and attended business school at Eau Claire Vocational School. He joined the Army-Air Corps in October 1942. He was a flight instructor of the AT6 Texan during World War II, and retired from the USAF Reserve in 1969, as a Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, Dave worked as a data processor at Uniroyal from 1939 to 1982. Dave married Shirley Newman in November, 1943. They were married for 57 years until Shirley's death in 2000. Survivors include Dave's seven children, William David (Rita) McSorley III, Karen (Mitchel) McDonald, Margaret (Thomas) Culbert, Melinda (Phillip) Neuheisel, Theresa (Jim) Zoellner, Jon (Sue) McSorley, and Paul (Nikki) McSorley. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Shirley, Dave was preceded in death by his four sisters, Evelyn Mathews, Louise Tarbox, Elsie Dahl, and Leona Johnson; as well as his grandson, Michael McDonald. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St., Eau Claire with Fr. Tom Krieg officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to Mass at church on Saturday. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire with Military Honors conducted by VFW Post 305. Memorials are preferred to Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict, 104 Chapel Lane, St. Joseph, MN 56374-0220.
