Walter J. Young, 77, of 2340 Moholt Drive died Wednesday, February 28, 1996 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was born May 2, 1918 to James and Emma (Wattenpool) in Altoona. Walter served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II with the 223rd Combat Engineering Company of the U.S. Army where he received the Bronze Battle Star. He was honorably discharged on November 25, 1945. Walter married Marion Hestekin at Aberdeen, South Dakota on July 28, 1953. He retired after thirty-three years with the City of Eau Claire as a heavy equipment operator in 1979. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and VFW Post # 388 in Wausau. \r\nSurvivors include a son, James and a brother, Raymond both of Eau Claire, and several nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Marion on October 4, 1995; his parents; two brothers, Robert Young and Harold Smith and a sister, Dorothy Broten.\r\nFuneral Services will be 1 P.M. Saturday at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastors John E. Hosmann and Cynthia A. Crane officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.Friends may call 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
