Wendell A. Lovejoy, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. \r\nHe was born June 10, 1917, to Clifford and Julia (Hanson) Lovejoy in north La Crosse. He was a 1935 graduate of Logan High School and lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He married Patricia K. Gittens on December 26, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Europe. He worked for the La Crosse post office for 31 years before his retirement in 1980. He lived in La Crosse and Onalaska until 2002, when he moved to Eau Claire to live with his family.\r\nWendell is survived by three sons, David, and his wife, Jackie and grandson, Danny of Menasha, Thomas of Eau Claire, and Steven and his wife, Cindy and grandsons, Bryan, Mike and Eric of Racine, Peter and his wife, Heather, of Boston and granddaughter, Anna of Baltimore; a wonderful sister, Audrey Jeanne Mickelson of Savanna, Ill.; good friend and brother-in-law, Robert Esmond of La Crosse; dear sister in-law, Carol Frederick of Kenosha; very special friend, Darla Sorensen of Eau Claire; many other family and friends; and a faithful Lab, Polly.\r\nWendell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patty in 1992; his parents; and brothers, Gerald and Leland Lovejoy.\r\nFuneral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main Street, in Onalaska. The Reverend Ted Dewald of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate; and burial, with military honors provided by the Onalaska American Legion Post, will be in the Onalaska Cemetery.\r\nFriends may call at the funeral home on Friday from noon until the service.\r\nMemorials may be designated to the Coulee Region Humane Society or Operation Migration.
