WILLIAM "PENN" P. GARNETT, 79, formerly of N6693 470th St., Menomonie, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie. \r\nHe was born on February 19, 1921 to Carl and Emma (Klopp) Garnett in Eau Claire. Penn enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 10, 1941 and served until his honorable discharge on July 6, 1946. He was a receiving clerk at Eau Claire Book and Stationary, Montgomery Wards, and retired from K-Mart in Menomonie in 1987. He had been a resident of Menomonie the past forty years. \r\nHe was a life member of the VFW Post 1039 of Menomonie, a life member of the VFW National Home for Children, and a member of the Fifth Army Association 126th - 173rd Field Artillery.\r\nSurvivors include a daughter, Trudi Malhotra of Lawrenceburg, IN; two sons, Steven of Mason, MI, and Jeffrey of Holt, MI; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (June) of Eau Claire; three sisters, Frances Reed, Beverly Boettcher, and Elaine (Jack) Wickland, all of Eau Claire; four sisters-in law, Esther Garnett of Fargo, ND, Laura (Ted) Beguhn of Elk Mound, Doris (Wayne) Klinkhammer of Owatonna, MN, and Irene (Wallace) Brunn of Menomonie; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Mary Jane) Singerhouse and Ronald Singerhouse, both of Menomonie; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Tom Garnett of South Carolina.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack and a sister, Winnie Winrich.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Pastor Joel A. Hoelter officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington where VFW Post #305 of Eau Claire will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and an hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.\r\nFamily suggests memorials be directed to the VFW, or to the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
