Obituary

WILLIAM "BILL" A. LEWIS, 73, of 3331 Morgan Ave., died Thursday, October 22, 1998 at his home. He was born March 27, 1925 to Admiral and Mary (Hintz) Lewis in Knapp. On December 4, 1948, Bill married Doreen Dahl in Colfax; Doreen died in 1982. He married Bonnie (Hurtley) Mattison on September 17, 1983 in Eau Claire. He entered the U.S. Navy on Nov. 29, 1944 and was honorably discharged on June 10, 1946. Bill worked as a layout lead man at Phoenix Steel for 27 years until his retirement in 1986.\r\nHe was a member of Grace Lutheran Church., V.F.W. Post # 305, and Eau Claire Moose Lodge #1408. \r\nHe was an avid golfer and reader. He will be missed by his family and friends who will always remember his upbeat personality and sense of humor. \r\nSurvivors include his wife, Bonnie; five children, Samuel (partner John Searl) of Toledo, OH, Vicki Lewis and Bonnie (Bill) Pfeiffer, both of Chippewa Falls, Jeffrey of Eau Claire, and David (Kim) of Chippewa Falls; five step-children, Mike (Sue) Mattison, Tom (Ann) Mattison, Tammy (Mark) Hurlburt, Kari (Doug) Graff, David (Kris) Mattison, all of Eau Claire; nineteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; an aunt, Alice Quilling of Menomonie; and special friends Vaughn and Loraine Mathews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Helen Dean in 1996.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Howard Fehr officiating. Burial will be in the town of Wheaton, Chippewa County at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery, where V.F.W. Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church. Eau Claire Moose Lodge # 1408 will conduct Moose rites at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.\r\n
