Obituary

William D. Schultz, 71, of 1613 Main Street, died Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at Luther Hospital. He was born on January 23, 1930 to William and Freda (Munsch) Schultz in Tieldon, MN. \r\nBill grew up in Grove City, Minnesota and graduated from high school there. He graduated from St. Cloud University with a BS and a MA Degree. \r\nHe married Ruth H. Swanson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire on March 22, 1975.\r\nBill taught school at Princeton and Sartell, MN. He served as a principal at Stewart, Heron Lake, and Lakefield, MN and later at Blair High School until Bill and Ruth moved to Eau Claire in 1985. From 1985 to 1990 he taught in Eau Claire and Hayward. Since his retirement he substitute taught for the Eau Claire School System until this past year. \r\nHe was a 37-year veteran of the armed forces. He served in the Airforce for 3 years and then with the National Guard attaining the rank of LTC.\r\nHe was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he served on various boards, participated with the Christian Men's Fellowship Group and served on church council. He was a member of the Eau Claire Seymour Lion's Club, and American Legion Post #53.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, Gregory (Pamela) Schultz of Rice, MN, and John (Nancy) Schultz of New Brighton, MN; three daughters, Rebecca Winslow of Minneapolis, Deborah (Ken) Fidali of Clemmons, NC, and Colleen Schultz of New Hope, MN; a step-son, Gary (Diana Rathke) Moen of Altoona; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Margie) Schultz and a sister, Delores Madsen, both of Terry, MT; a sister-in-law, Louise Schultz of Grove City, MN; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lloyd, Elwin, and Merle Schultz.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2001 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary F. Sahs officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be on Monday, October 22, 2001 at Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery near Spooner, WI. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
