Winifred "Winnie" G. Krause, 96, of Eau Claire, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Country Terrace of Altoona. Winifred was born on February 1, 1917, in Eau Claire, the oldest of five daughters of Ernest and Alice (Hagen) Meier. Winnie was a lifetime resident of Eau Claire. Following graduation from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1935, she worked at National Presto Industries and Eau Claire Book and Stationary. Winnie ended her working career at C.A. Bertleson & Co., as a supervisor for 25 years. Winifred married Ralph W. Johnson on October 21, 1939 in Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1957. Winifred married Floyd D. Krause in 1964 in Eau Claire. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1997. Winnie was an avid bowler and golfer. She loved playing all card games but especially enjoyed playing Bridge. She also enjoyed embroidery, especially dish towels that she shared with her family. Winnie was a long time member of First Lutheran Church where she was active with the church circles. Winnie was devoted to her family and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Winnie is survived by her son, Ronald (Betty) Johnson, of Eau Claire; daughter, Judith (Gerald) Kneer, of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson and Jay (Gennifer) Johnson, Mary (Mark) Wendt, Ann (Scott) Wathke, and Tom (Lori) Kneer; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua (Kristen Halvorsen) Wathke, Alexis (J.B.) Burnett, Emily, Ben and Sam Kneer, Bain Johnson, Dawson and Mason Wendt; step-daughters, Cheryl (William) Watson and Rebecca (Roger) Cardinal; step-grandchildren, Kenneth Olson, David (Cindie) Olson, Michael and Jonathan Watson; a sister, Corneilia Peterson of Eau Claire; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph and Floyd; parents; three sisters, Naunda Tietz, Audrey Hetzer and Beverly Alf. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, 1005 Oxford Ave. in Eau Claire, with Pastor Amy Odgren officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the services, Wednesday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral & Cremation Services is serving her family. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church. The family of Winnie wishes to extend their appreciation to the Mayo Clinic Home, Health & Hospice and the staff at Country Terrace of Altoona for their compassionate care.
