Angelina Lucas Obituary

Angelina “Lee” Marie (Priolo) Lucas passed away peacefully as she slept on January 24, 2019. Born in San Francisco, California on June 4, 1924, Lee grew up in the Excelsior District of San Francisco, with her sister Emily (Mia) and her mother and father, Anna (Longo) Priolo and Vito Priolo. From a young age, she enjoyed sports and music, playing both accordion and piano throughout her life. Lee met Hoyle L. Lucas at Hashagen’s Bar in San Francisco. They married a few months later on October 12, 1946, in Reno, Nevada, celebrating a Church blessing shortly thereafter at Epiphany Catholic Church in San Francisco. They were married for 46 years. Lee and Hoyle spent their early married life as a military couple. Hoyle joined the Army Air Corp in 1940 and ended his career as a Master Sergeant in 1963 with the United States Air Force. They were stationed in Thessalonika, Greece, Travis Air Force Base in Vacaville, California and Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany as well as other locations. Lee and Hoyle, along with their daughter, Lana Gay Lucas, and son, Douglas Scott Lucas, lived at military bases and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe as a family. A highlight of their European travels included spending time with Lee’s Italian relatives in Modugno, Italy. After returning to the United States in 1963, they settled in San Carlos, California, which became home for more than 55 years. Lee retired from Sequoia Hospital as a PBX Switchboard Supervisor after serving the community for over 20 years. Lee and Hoyle enjoyed dancing and entertaining friends and family. She especially enjoyed playing cards: Poker Night with friends, family Pedro matches, Skip-Bo, Kings, Crazy Eights, Three Toed Pete and 99. Lee loved big band music and bowled in a league well into her 80s. Like her mother before her, who passed down how to make ravioli from scratch, Lee made the delicious heirloom spaghetti dish (with her own special touches) enjoyed by many over the years. She had a love of good food and, in her later years, especially enjoyed enchiladas from Fernando’s in San Mateo. Lee’s daughter, Lana, and granddaughter, Alana were a close threesome. Alana’s marriage to Mike Devine on April 28, 2013, was a celebration for all. And welcoming Lee’s great-grandson, Eaden Frederick Devine on September 23, 2016, was a joyous occasion. Lee and her daughter, Lana, lived together for eleven years caring for each other, until Lana’s death on November 23, 2016. Alana, Mike and Eaden moved in with Lee to provide her companionship and care. Lee was overjoyed to learn about Alana and Mike expecting a baby girl in February of 2019. Lee went to visit her son, Doug, and daughter-in-law, Cathy, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in July, 2018. After returning to San Carlos, California in October, Lee moved to Eau Claire to live with Doug and Cathy. She enjoyed special time with her granddaughters Anna and Cate, listening to Cate sing in her band Red Tide, getting manicures from Anna, going to the Farmer’s Market or Art Fairs, playing Pedro and eating out in search of enchiladas as good as Fernando’s. She easily made friends and enjoyed visiting Cathy’s family. Lee loved life and loved people. She always had a little dog at her feet. She also loved cars, clothes, shoes and diamonds. She once said “Thank God for make-up and nice clothes.” Her favorite prayer was “Bless the food before us, bless the family beside us and bless the love between us.” She received compassionate care at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire following a hospitalization in early January and returned to Doug and Cathy’s home on Hospice. Surrounded by love, she received the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and passed away the following morning. Lee is survived by her sister, Emily (Priolo) di Carlo; her son, Doug Lucas (Cathy Pierzina); granddaughters, Alana (Jordan) Devine (Mike Devine), Anna Lucas, Catherine (Cate) Lucas; and great-grandson, Eaden Devine. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Junell (Lucas) Gill; and many nieces, nephews and grand- nieces and grand-nephews. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin is assisting with the arrangements. Lee’s final resting place will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California next to her husband, Hoyle. A private service will be held at a future date. If you wish to make a donation in Lee’s name, please consider Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice, Eau Claire, WI.
