Audree H. Ayres, 94, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Oak Gardens Place in Altoona. Audree was born on February 25, 1925, in Loyal, Wisconsin to Darsie and Elsie (Hartmann) Dickinson. She met Stanley Ayres immediately after he returned to Eau Claire following his discharge from the Army. On July 20, 1946, Audree married Stanley and they shared the next 68 years together. They lived in St. Paul for a brief time. After their first son was born, they moved to be closer to their families, living in Caryville for a few years and then in Eau Claire. Audree enjoyed and was good at many things. Despite moving several times while growing up, she still graduated a year early from high school. She was sought out by several small business owners over the years to manage their financial books, because they knew she was tenacious about accuracy. After she retired, she dove into writing and genealogy. As a result, she gave her family the great gift of over a dozen volumes of meticulously researched and organized family history along with three published books about the family. She made many new friends along the way. She and Stan had an extensive but close circle of friends, several of them lifelong, and spent 20 years wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama with many of them. Audree is survived by three sons, Michael (Sally) Ayres of Eau Claire, Bruce Ayres of Colfax, Matthew (Rosemary) Ayres of Hanover, NH; two daughters, Jeanne Skoug and Susan (Debra Lang) Ayres; grandchildren, Liberty (Kevin) Snyder, Darsie (Malory) Ayres, Luke (Leslee) Ayres, Zoe (John) Heppner, Sarah (Zach) Steinberg, and Benjamin (Paige Howell) Ayres; great-grandchildren, Heather and Jordan Aaron, Bailey and Dylan Ayres, Lucy Ayres and Leah Steinberg; brother, Vernon Dickinson; and also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 2015; daughter-in-law, Ilogene Ayres; sisters-in-law, Donna Dickinson, Gladys (Glenn) Day, Marian (Chester) Wheeler, Lyndall (Allen) DeMars, Frances (Frank) Wiseman; and brothers-in-law, William F. (Rose) and Wayne (Alice) Ayres. The family would like to thank the staff of Oak Gardens Place and Mayo Clinic Health System-Home Health & Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness and respect for Audree and her family during this difficult time. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Ave. in Eau Claire, with Father Francis Thadathil officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass, Thursday, at the church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls.
