Obituary

Dr. Chuck Tomkovick, of Eau Claire, WI, died early in the morning on July 25, 2013 after dealing with cancer in recent months. Chuck was born on November 10, 1953 in Waukegan, IL. He grew up in North Chicago, IL, lived in Madison, WI and Houston, TX, before settling in Eau Claire, WI. He married Maria Bergevin on April 3, 2004. Chuck received a PhD in marketing from Texas A&M University (1993), MBA and MS degrees in marketing and industrial engineering from UW-Madison (1982), and a BA from Carthage College (1976). Chuck had a passion for travel, all sports, and loved to play golf and poker with his friends. Chuck taught undergraduate and graduate marketing courses for UW-Eau Claire where he engaged students in collaborative research, instilling in them a love for scholarly inquiry. Chuck was generous with praise, quick to smile, and always on the lookout for the positive in every person and situation. He garnered many awards including receiving the UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Teaching award twice. Chuck also received national media recognition for the Super Bowl advertising research he conducted. Chuck used his talents to help others become better teachers. He was a charter member of UWEC Network for Excellence in Teaching Council and was a mentor to new faculty members. Chuck left behind his wife, Maria Bergevin; children, Ria Sharon, Peter Ault, Graham Tomkovick; brother, Jack (Nancy) Tomkovick; sister, Julie Tomkovick; sister, Joanne (Jack) Zimmerman; sister-in-law, Christine (David) Longville; brother-in-law, Anthony Bergevin, and many other relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Wanda (Ryskiewicz) Tomkovick; and his brother, Norman Swanson. The visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Newman Parish in the Ecumenical Religious Center on the UW-Eau Claire campus on Monday, July 29, 2013, followed by a Memorial Mass at 5 p.m. A reception will be held in The Dakota Ballroom (Room 340) of the WR Davies Student Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation as a gift designated to the Chuck Tomkovick Management and Marketing Teaching Excellence Award (http://www.uwec.edu/Foundation/what/faculty/Tomkovick.htm) or to the Friends of Sacred Heart Hospital as a gift to their Palliative Care Services and to the Monsignor Klimek Healing Presence Endowment Fund http://www.sacredhearteauclaire.org/ways-to-give The passion and joy Chuck had for life will be carried on through all those who knew and loved him.
