Elaine Emma (Leland) Sell

Elaine "E" Emma Sell, age 93, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2023, at Dove Healthcare South. Elaine was born August 18, 1929, to William and Emma Leland. She was baptized at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Altoona. Her confirmation verse: "Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." - John 8:12

Elaine was united in marriage to Gaylord Sell on October 29, 1955, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Together they raised one daughter, Trudy, as they operated a dairy farm. Elaine worked as a legal secretary at the Betz, LeBarron, and Poquette Law Firm, formerly known as the Frank E. Betz Law Firm, prior to high school graduation until her retirement in 1997, a total of 50 years. After retirement, Elaine found a passion in caring for and meeting the needs of others. She moved into The Meadows at Otter Creek apartment complex in Eau Claire in 2002, being very involved in planning social activities and was graced by many close friendships. Being an involved member of Zion Lutheran Church, Cleghorn, since 1970, she participated in the LWML group and was an active member of the Rebekah Circle. Elaine was an avid collector of angels and is now in the presence of them, home with Jesus.

Left to cherish Elaine's memory are her beloved daughter, Trudy Horlacher; her cherished grandson, Jared Horlacher: devoted siblings Arlene Christ and Louise Nyre: dedicated brother- in-law Richard Sires: as well as many caring nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband: parents, sisters Judy Sires and Joanne Christ: brother Paul; brothers-in-law Gail Christ, Bernard Christ, James Nyre; and sister in-law Pat Leland.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00AM with visitation an hour before, at Zion Lutheran Church, Cleghorn (Highway 93 and HH). Graveside services will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family would be grateful that memorials be directed to Zion Lutheran Church per Elaine's wishes.
