Elaine Audrey Thompson, age 100, of Eau Claire went to her eternal home on March 11, 2024. She was born on February 24, 1924 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to parents Eva and Claude Bergum. The family later grew to five with the additions of brother, Mancel and sister, Lois. Audrey was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church, being baptized on March 23, 1924 and confirmed on June 5, 1938. She attended school in Eau Claire and later worked for the Lange Canning Company and was the bookkeeper for Bergum Garbage Service.
Audrey married Nanian Thompson on August 9, 1948. Together they raised 4 children in their Water Street home that served as a playground for many neighborhood friends. The consummate cook and hostess, she effortlessly made sumptuous meals for church friends as well as our ever growing family. She was always the last to sit and eat after she was positive no one needed anything else.
Audrey is survived by two sons, David and Brian (Susan), one daughter, Lynette (Jim) Firle, and daughter-in-law, Paula Thompson. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren, Benjamin Thompson (Emily), Abigail (Brian) Marish, Molly Thompson, Jennifer (David) Branstad, Jacob (Danielle) Firle, Dan (Jessica) Thompson, John (Lydia) Thompson and Rachel Thompson. Audrey was also fortunate to see the births of 7 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Liam, Harper, Brooklyn, George, Cliff, and Noli.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, son, Gary, brother, Mancel, sister, Lois and many other family members. Even as the strain of living to 100 took a toll on her body and mind, she never lost her faith in God, her sense of humor, her kind and caring spirit, or her love of family and friends.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dr. Chris Roberts, the Mayo Hospice team, Amy Nystrom and the kind caring staff of Amy's Angels, Pastors Theiste, Hamilton, and Webber of Concordia Church as well as the staff at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home Thanks also to all the family and friends of mom's who came to celebrate her 100th birthday. A special thanks to David Thompson, who freely put his life on hold for the last two years, to so lovingly care for our mother, in his house.
