Frieda Metcalf, 68, of Eau Claire, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospital in Eau Claire. She was born on February 3, 1944, in Tittmoning, Germany to Johann and Johanna (Maier) Rainer; she was the eleventh child, of twelve. Frieda came to the United States in 1964 where she became a US citizen, and spent a good share of her life in the Chippewa Valley. She worked for Huntsinger Farms for 35 years and retired on April 1, 2012. She is survived by her five sisters, Johanna Tress of Germany, Rosa Huening of Washington, Margareta Hawkins of Tennessee, Franciska Anderson of New York, and Erika Sessler of Germany; two brothers, Franz Rainer, and Friedrich Rainer, both of Germany; many nieces and nephews; her best friend, Kimberly Myers; and countless friends. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Maria Rainer, Berta Altenbuchner and Maria Schwager; and one brother, Johann Rainer, all of Germany. Frieda will be sadly missed, but her light-hearted spirit will never be forgotten. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, where there will be a 7p.m. prayer vigil.
