Gordon William (Heimstead) Heimstead

Gordon William Heimstead, 93, of Eau Claire died April 5 at Mayo Clinic Health System.

He was born to Glenn and Geraldine (Higley) Heimstead on June 15, 1930, in Eau Claire.

He earned a diploma from Eau Claire Senior High School. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he began a long and successful career at Uniroyal, during which time he was promoted to supervisor. He retired in 1987 after a medical disability.

He married Audrey Brotzman on August 14, 1955, at Second Congregational Church in Eau Claire. They raised two sons together and he coached their Little League baseball teams. He also taught them to hunt, fish, bowl and golf. They enjoyed watching the Badgers and Brewers and cheering for the Green Bay Packers, win or lose.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Audrey; two sons, Scott (Mary) Heimstead of Eau Claire and Todd (Lou) Heimstead of Eleva; two grandsons, Hunter Heimstead and Tanner Heimstead; two step-grandchildren, Jessi (Mark) Hamersky and Turner (Glendali Rodriguez) Howard; and five step-greatgrandchildren, Isabel, Henry and Elsie Hamersky and Ruben and Lorenzo Rodriguez. He also is survived by his sister-in-law, Violet Roffler and many nieces and nephews.

Gordon was proceeded in death by his parents; his brother, Louis and sister, Phyliss Gessler.

A graveside service, with Rev. David Huber officiating, will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire at 2 p.m. on April 18, followed by a reception at Plymouth United Church of Christ, 2010 W. Moholt Drive, Eau Claire.
