It is with great sadness we announce the death of Gretchen L. Friederich-Field. Gretchen passed away after a long illness at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on June 17, 2023. She was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on September 4, 1958 to Allan and Mary Friederich.
She is survived by her husband Dave Field of Chippewa Falls, mother Mary Friederich of Eau Claire, brother Peter (Suzan) Friederich of Littleton, Colorado, sister Catherine Friederich of Marshfield, brother James (Sue) Friederich of St. Louis, Missouri, and sister Christine (Thomas) Wysocki of Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin. Additional survivors include mother-in-law Janet Field of Eau Claire, brother-in-law Michael Field (Julie) of Jefferson City, Montana, sister-in-law Kari Stokes of Eau Claire, and by nieces and nephews Elizabeth, Kinsey, Erin, Sami, MaryAnn, Gabriel, Joshua, Clara, and Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her father Allan Friederich, father-in-law Gorden Field, brothers-in-law Doug Stokes and Kevin Field, and nephews Mark Friederich, Luke Friederich, Samuel Ott, and Matthew Friederich.
Gretchen grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Memorial High School in 1977. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and graduated with a degree in Economics in 1987. On June 15, 1985 she married Dave Field. Their thirty-eighth wedding anniversary was two days prior to her passing. Gretchen had worked in banking for many years, and the last twenty years she worked for the State of Wisconsin as an adjudicator for the Department of Workforce Development until her recent retirement.
Gretchen had many hobbies and interests which included weekends at the cabin, travels to National Parks, wildlife watching, kayaking, crafts, boating, motorcycling and socializing with friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and by her dog Millie.
A Memorial Service has been scheduled through Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Services on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 3735 Jeffers Road, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Pastor David Irgens officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:30 and the service will be at 5:30 with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be at a later date at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Memorials and donations may be made in her name to Saving Grace Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
