December 8, 1937 ~ July 4, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Obituary

Lois Stolts, 85, of Eau Claire, WI passed away after a short illness, on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Lois was the only child of Lorraine (Murphy) and Johnnie Rumppe. She spent her younger years involved in many school activities such as glee club, chorus and band. She graduated from Taylor High School in 1955 where she had many lifelong friends. At 17, she left her small town and moved to Milwaukee to attend Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse in 1958. She loved her time in Milwaukee. In 1962 she married Tully Stolts of Hixton and they eventually made Eau Claire their home. They had two children: Michael and Beth. They divorced in 1971. Lois's passion for helping others made nursing the perfect profession for her. She worked at Luther Hospital in the Psychiatric Department for 13 years. After that, she worked at the Eau Claire Academy where she frequently included her students at family dinners. She finished her career at Northern Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled. She retired from nursing as soon as the first of her grandchildren was born so she could spend as much time with them as possible. After retiring, she was lucky enough to travel to Ireland and Norway and all over the United States. Lois especially loved traveling to Arizona to visit her in- laws, granddaughter, son, and daughter- in-law. She enjoyed many social activities such as bus trips, line dancing at the Senior Center, Sons of Norway gatherings, lunching with girlfriends, taking Norwegian lessons, teaching lefse making classes and watching her grandsons play sports; she made many friends along the way. She was an avid reader and believed in the importance of education. She returned to school and completed the Northwest Synod of WI Lay School of Ministry program. She was very active in her church, where she ministered to members and led bible studies along with other activities. She was an active board member of the Women of the ELCA, and traveled to their annual conventions several times. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and Johnnie Rumppe, son, Michael Stolts, mother and father-in-law, Arvilla and Melvin Amundson, and special friend, Dennis Eikenberry. Lois is survived by her daughter Beth (Stolts) Johnson, son-in-law, Douglas Johnson, daughter-in-law Michelle (Pahl) Stolts, grandsons Alexander and Samuel Strege, granddaughter Jada Stolts, sister-in-law Ellen (Stolts) Gimmestad. She will be greatly missed by these family members along with her church family and many friends.
