Marjean Bachmeier Obituary

Marjean Bachmeier (Wahl), 1929-2024, was born in Worthington Minnesota to John and Margaret Ann. She was the only girl and had four brothers, Bill (Mary), Jerry (Jean), Bob (Barb), John (Jean). When she was in 3rd grade, her family moved to Eau Claire where she attended and graduated from St. Patrick Catholic Schools. Marjean had many friends and loved to tell her family all about them as she flipped through her yearbooks later in life. Shortly after graduating from high school, Marjean worked as a lab technician at Sacred Heart Hospital. She loved to tell stories about her time there. One story in particular that defined her free-loving spirit, was when she was sharing her weekend plans with a Doctor she worked with and he told her to "Have fun and be good" - to which she quickly responded, "Well Doctor, you're going to have to make up your mind!"

Marjean soon met her beloved husband, Victor Bachmeier, and they were married on May 30th, 1951. Together they were married for 70 years and created a beautiful family. In 1952, their daughter Anne Marie was born, followed by Patrick John in 1955, John in 1958, and Thomas in 1960. Once all her children were in school, she began working at Samuelson's Department Store in Eau Claire for several years. She loved sorting through the beautiful linens and getting to know the women who frequented the store.

Marjean truly had the "gift of conversation" and possessed a genuine curiosity and heartfelt desire to hear about the lives and stories of all those she met. She often loved to ask about people's family history and made each interaction an opportunity for meaningful connection. Her greatest joy was found in the company of her family. The holidays when everyone got together under one roof were some of her favorite times, especially when she could enjoy an Old Fashioned. Marjean is survived by her children, Anne Marie (Mike), John (Joan), Thomas (Jackie) and her grandchildren, Abby (Denton), Gretchen (Jake), Marcus (Thu), Samuel Thomas, and Natalie (Grant). She loved and adored the newest additions to her family, her three great granddaughters, Evelyn, Finnely and Flora. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor John and son, Patrick John.

The family would like to extend our immense gratitude to Karen Horgen of Home Companions who provided excellent in-home care and developed a wonderful friendship with Marjean over the last several years. Finally, a special thanks goes to Dove Healthcare for the care Marjean received in her final days. Please direct any gifts of memorials to St. James the Greater Catholic Parish of Eau Claire, Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW).
