Mary Alice Schmidt, age 85, of Eau Claire, died peacefully at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire, on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. Mary was born on May 17, 1927 in Menomonie, WI, to Herbert C. and Charlotte (Gabelein) Sims. She married William "Bill" R. Schmidt of Menomonie on October 10, 1945. In 1953, Mary and Bill moved to Eau Claire. Mary loved to cook and bake, experimenting with recipes and nurturing family and friends with her great food. She was an avid gardener known for her beautiful flower beds. Mary and Bill loved to travel, visiting all the Canadian provinces and every state except Alaska and Hawaii. They made many trips to California and Oregon to visit their daughters and grandchildren. She and Bill belonged to a card club for many years and Mary continued to enjoy playing cards regularly with friends until recently. Mary worked at the Eau Claire K-Mart for 29 years. She was a member of Christ Church Cathedral for nearly 60 years. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Wayne) Beauchamp and Anne Beauchamp both of Eugene, Oregon; son, Paul (Sandy) Schmidt, of Fall Creek; grandchildren, Lisa Blaeser, Jacob Blaeser, Mary (Robert) Abbott, Kenneth (Rebecca) Beauchamp, Jason Beauchamp, Rusty (Krista) Springer and Heather Springer; great-grandchildren; Andrew (Jessica) Abbott and eleven others: Zachary, Genevieve, Samuel, Zoe, Riley, Katherine, Xavier, Simone, Phoenix, Corbin and Lila; and one great-great grandchild, Trevon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2005; her parents; her brother Herbert Sims; and a great-granddaughter, Sage Blaeser. Visitation will be on Monday, January 28, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire. Requiem Eucharist will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Christ Church Cathedral, 510 S. Farwell Street, with a visitation one hour prior to the Mass at Church. The Very Rev. Father Scott Kirby will be officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie.
