Norma D. Johnson (Zastrow) died peacefully at Care Partners Assisted Living on August 21, 2023 in Altoona, Wisconsin at the age of 95.
Norma was born on April 17, 1928 in Hannibal, Wisconsin to Albert and Ella Zastrow. The family moved to Medford, Wisconsin where she completed her senior year in high school. After graduation, Norma enrolled in “beauty” cosmetology school in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She became a licensed beautician and worked in a downtown salon. She enjoyed being a beautician, cutting hair and giving permanents to many friends and relatives. In the 70's, Norma enjoyed cooking for the Delong Middle School. Other interests she had included sewing, bowling, gardening, canning, doing word puzzle books, reading New York Times best seller author books, fishing and camping at Lake Holcombe. Norma was also a big sports fan. As a kid, she loved playing ball with her four brothers. She also loved watching and listening to the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and Milwaukee Brewers games. She was fortunate enough to have attended a Brewers game several years ago.
Norma met her future husband, Allan Johnson at Fournier’s Ballroom and they were married July 26, 1947. Together, they ran Johnson Disposal service for 30 years, and raised six children: Sharon Leinweber, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Michael Johnson, Eau Claire, WI, Miles (Francine) Johnson, Kenosha, WI, Brian (Laura) Johnson, Holcombe, WI, Brenda Schilling, Eagle Lake, MN and Kirk Johnson, Eau Claire, WI.
Besides her six children, Norma is survived by eight grandchildren: Kristina, Quinn, Kyle, Jesse, Jared, Carolyn, Amie and Benjamin and 11 great grandchildren: Lydia, Sylvia, Ella, Hunter, Arya, Bristol, Rowan, Mya, Elijah, Caleb and Jordan. Norma is further survived by her brother Wayne Zastrow, Oshkosh, WI and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband Allan on May 27, 2009, her parents and brothers Lyle, Gerald, and Milfred Zastrow.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at Lenmark Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home - WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N Clairemont Ave, Eau Claire, WI. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00 pm. Pastor Christine Emerson will officiate the ceremony. Inurnment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Eau Claire at a later date. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Norma’s life. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Care Partners Assisted Living, Altoona, WI and also all of the nurses and clergy from for their love and compassion in her care.
