Roger Langkamp Obituary

Roger Thomas Langkamp passed away in his home on the morning of Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. He was 60 years old. Roger was born in Wisconsin on November 15th, 1963 to GayAnne Frappier. He was raised in Platteville, WI, by his adopted parents, Clifford and Darlene Langkamp.

He graduated from Platteville High School in 1982. He started as a maintenance man in a hotel in Platteville, then decided to try his hand at insurance sales. At Combined Insurance, he earned a transfer to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Eventually he found his calling as a first responder for the Lake Hallie Fire Department, and then became an EMT for Gold Cross Ambulance Service. He greatly enjoyed helping people and went on to get his RN degree from Chippewa Valley Technical College. A back injury later led to a career change into retail.

Roger married Carolyn Hazuga on June 13, 1992, bringing together their sons from previous marriages Matthew (Langkamp), and Peter and Christopher (Hazuga) in a blended family.

Roger was a well-known figure in the business community in Eau Claire. He was often called "Roger-Dodger" or sometimes "Roger Battery," the latter because of his time as manager of Batteries Plus. He greeted everyone with a smile and did his best to provide the customer satisfaction that many seek. Outside of work he was active within the St James the Greater Church community, and was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus.

When an opportunity to become a co-owner in a new Batteries Plus store presented itself, Roger and his wife Carol moved to Dubuque, Iowa. This allowed him to be closer to his parents and he enjoyed making friends and serving as an usher at the Church of the Resurrection.

Roger and Carol returned to Eau Claire Wisconsin in 2022 to be closer to their granddaughters. He found employment with Costco where his sociable nature made members and fellow employees feel welcome.

As a young man, Roger enjoyed bowling and roller skating. He was a lifelong fan of the Packers, and later enjoyed travelling with Carol to places such as Hawaii, New Orleans, and Las Vegas. His greatest joys were his granddaughters and watching them grow.

He is preceded in death by his birth mother, Gay Anne Frappier; his parents, Clifford and Darlene Langkamp and several beloved canines.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carolyn Langkamp; sons, Matthew (Katie) Langkamp, Peter Hazuga and Christopher (Jamie) Hazuga); siblings, Mary Langkamp, Thomas Buss, Terri (Patrice) Krukowski, Bobbi Buss-Laabs; niece, Cheyenne (Keinan) Shaw; granddaughters, Sophia Hazuga, Courtney Hazuga, Maya Hazuga and River Langkamp.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, April 26, 2024 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street, Eau Claire, with Father Tom Krieg officiating.
