Roger E. Lund, Age 89, of Woodbury, MN passed on Sept. 12, 2022, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Roger was a beloved father, husband, friend who enjoyed a wonderful, long life and will be deeply missed by family and friends. Beloved father of Gregory (Won), Rebecca (Alan Feistner), Jonathan (Sara); grandfather of Allison, Grace, Catherine, Andrew, Nathan, Jane, Jason; siblings Alice Gregor (Duane), Ruth Bolton (Larry) and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death, wife Annette, Grandson Michael, brother Roland.
Roger grew up on a hardworking family dairy farm just outside of Tyler Minnesota. On his father's urging, he trained as cow tester in Brookings, South Dakota. Soon thereafter he was drafted into the Army and deployed to Korea, assigned as a Tracked Vehicle mechanic. Once out of the Army, Roger went to college on the GI bill. Loved it so much, he studied at the University of Minnesota for nine years, completing his PhD in Electrical Engineering. Roger had a 30-year career in the defense industry. Roger first worked at Hughes in Los Angeles California, and then Univac/Unisys in the Twin Cities, where he earned numerous awards and patents in his accomplished 30+ year career.
In retirement, he worked as a census taker, where he enjoyed meeting all kinds of people. Once he truly retired, Roger enjoyed his long-time interests, including gardening, walking, travel and reading. Roger enjoyed skydiving (once) and showing the pictures and video to prove it to everyone. He spent many years RVing to Florida with his beloved wife Annette, where he had many friends who helped him stay young. When Annette passed in 2008, he mourned the woman he loved for so long, but continued to reach towards new experiences. Roger enjoyed these last years by continuing to spend time traveling to Europe, and annually to Florida with his companion Lori Holter.
Roger will be greatly missed by the many people he touched throughout his life.
Inurnment for Roger will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 11am. At that time, friends and family are welcome to join us and say their goodbyes.
