Shawn Michael Flynn died unexpectedly at his home on July 13th, 2023 in Eau Claire, WI at the age of 49.
Shawn was born on July 27th, 1973 in Eau Claire, WI to Frank “Butch” Flynn and Linda Frank (Bailey/Flynn). At sixteen, he began a long and successful career with AT&T as an intern - continuing for 30 years, recently retiring as a Project Manager to pursue other interests. He graduated with the North High School Class of 1991 as Class President, and continued on to graduate from Chippewa Valley Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in 1996. He married Carrie Ann Bauer on October 4, 1997, recently celebrating 25 years. Together they have three children who remember him as loyal, tireless, and goofy.
Shawn’s greatest love was his children and their accomplishments, and he would stop at nothing to help them achieve their dreams. Garrett operates his own software consultancy business and recently graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Computational Neuroscience and an M.A. in Media Arts, Games, and Health. Lauren is an accomplished cross-country and track athlete at UW-River Falls, who will be completing a B.A. in Biochemistry this upcoming year. Brianne is a creative and kind student, passionate about Show Choir and Japanese studies, who will graduate from North High School next June.
Shawn was an entrepreneurial spirit who was always doing something—renting, flipping, or driving. He was respected and admired by all who knew him especially when he was creative enough to squeeze two bucks out of a dollar. He was an active and dedicated member of the River City Community Church and volunteered as a sound technician and handled the general upkeep of the property.
Shawn is survived by his mother Linda and stepfather Harold Frank; his wife, Carrie, and children, Garrett (Alison Kennedy), Lauren (Christian Hjelmen), and Brianne; siblings Shannon Paolocci (Lane), Kelly Atkinson (Gary), and Aaron Kaat (Melissa); nieces and nephews Alyssa Jo Paolocci (John), Aliya Atkinson, Lillith, Philip, Amethyst, and Gregory Kaat; and Julie Lentz, Butch’s long-time partner.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James W. and Mildred E. Flynn, and maternal grandparents, Clyde K. and Florence V. Bailey; his father Butch; and Abby, his beloved chocolate lab.
Visitation will take place on Friday, July 21st at 11:00AM at River City Community Church (1200 W River Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729), followed by a service at 1:00PM. Pastor Chris Uttecht will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome and encouraged to attend and celebrate Shawn’s life. Please also join us for food and an opportunity to share memories at the Elks Lodge.
