Shirley J. McHugh

Shirley J. McHugh, 82, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, March 28, 2015, at HSHS St. Joseph Hospital in Chippewa Falls, WI. She was born in Ladysmith, WI, on July 24, 1932, a daughter of Peter and Muriel (Chriski) Boss. Shirley attended school in Ladysmith and worked alongside her father at his auto dealership. Shirley married Gerald D. McHugh on June 23, 1956, in Ladysmith. Together, they built and owned MacQ’s Grocery Store, located in the Pinehurst Shopping Center. Shirley also worked at JC Penny’s Department Store for over 25 years. Shirley enjoyed bowling leagues, playing piano, crossword puzzles, watching golf, and loved the Green Bay Packers. With the help of the Church and Al-Anon, Shirley was the rock of the family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Shirley is survived by a daughter, Teresa McHugh (Olson) of Eau Claire; three sons, Jeffrey (Patti) McHugh of Bruce, WI, Patrick (Melissa) McHugh of Ladysmith, and Michael McHugh of LaCrosse, WI; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Marlak; and sister-in-law, Catherine Boss. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents; son, Kevin McHugh; great-granddaughter, Britney Burkart; brother, Leonard Boss; and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Marlak. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe St. in Eau Claire, with Father Felix Tigoy officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Ladysmith.
