Verna Ruth Gunderson, 101, of Eau Claire went to be with the Lord on Friday November 10, at Dove West.
Verna was born September 24, 1922, to John and Luella (Ward) Burt in Independence, WI. She was confirmed in June 1936 at Independence Lutheran Church and graduated from Independence High School in 1940.
She married Bradford Gunderson on June 10, 1944, in Independence. They moved to Eau Claire in 1945. Verna worked at the Eau Claire County Hospital as a nurse's aide for several years and volunteered at St Francis food pantry. Verna was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for 67 years. As an active member she served in many areas including funerals, bible study and the Women's circle. She lived her life for the Lord and served him with gladness.
In 2003, Verna moved into the Good Shepherd Apartments where she remained for 19 years and made many friends, enjoyed playing skip-bo and doing jigsaw puzzles "at the table".
Verna is survived by sons; Daniel (Nancy) Gunderson and David Gunderson; daughters, Debra Lee and Dawn (Timothy) Buckley.
Grandchildren; Scott (Kristin) Gunderson, Jeffrey (Amy) Gunderson, Kelly (John) Strenski, John Gunderson, Marie Gunderson, Becky (Jeff) Olson, Adam (Krista) Lee, Brian (Brittany) Lee, Erik (Priscilla) Buckley and Brett (Weiwei) Buckley. Also survived by 17 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bradford, daughter-in-law Ginny Gunderson and son-in-law, Robert Lee. Also, three brothers and five sisters.
The family would like to thank Mayo hospice and Dove West for their wonderful care of Verna.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 24th at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1120 Cedar St, Eau Claire. Visitation will begin at 10 AM at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be given to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or St Francis Food Pantry.
