Allan Hanson Obituary

Allan D. “Al” Hanson, age 85, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at The Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire, under the care of St. Croix Hospice. Allan was born June 24, 1930, in Bemidji, MN, the son of Lewis and Lavina (Markeson) Hanson. Allan attended the Eau Claire Public Schools, graduating from Eau Claire High School with the class of 1948. Allan loved playing basketball for his high school and continued to follow the Memorial “Old Abe” Basketball team throughout his life. He attended U.W. Eau Claire for one year, transferring and graduating from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, in 1952. Allan served in the U.S. Marines before beginning his work career as an Accountant at C.A. Bertelson Company. He was employed there for eighteen years. He then joined the L.E. Phillips Family Foundation, serving as their accountant for twenty-three years. He thoroughly enjoyed his forty-one years of employment and was always willing to help others with their income taxes. Allan was also very involved in community organizations. He served as the treasure for Grace Lutheran Foundation, Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Eau Claire YMCA, Eau Claire “Golden K” Kiwanis Club, and Hillcrest Country Club. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club and the Samaritan Club at Luther Hospital. Al also spent lots of time on the golf course, both here in Eau Claire and during his winters in Florida. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their various activities. Allan married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Campbell, in June 1952. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Eau Claire; three sons, Stephen (Cheryl) of Waukesha, WI, Paul (Liane) of Greenfield, WI. and David (Mary) of Eau Claire; six grandchildren, Scott (Melissa) Hanson, Kristen (Christopher) Greig, Lisa (Eric) Bruecker, Jennifer Hanson, Jamie Hanson and Joshua (Angela) Hanson; eight great grandchildren, Austin and Jackson Hanson, Elijah and Brianna Greig, Evan, Alexa and Gavin Bruecker, and Aiden Hanson; brother-in-law, Richard Campbell; two nephews, James and Mark Hanson; one niece, Barbara Hanson. Allan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife’s parents; and his two brothers, Donald and Kenneth and their spouses. Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington, Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave, Eau Claire, WI. and one hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to: Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Eau Claire YMCA, or Mayo Clinic-Eau Claire Development Fund.
