Cheryl Uelmen Obituary

Cheryl “Cheri” Lynn Uelmen, 58, of Eau Claire, WI, has passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, from a serious bike accident that occurred the morning of Sunday, September 7, 2014. She was born October 6, 1955, in La Crosse, WI. She was one of three children born to Ralph and Carolyn Rundman of Ishpeming, MI. Cheryl grew up in Ishpeming, MI, and graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1973, and graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education and Speech Pathology in 1978. She was an elementary education teacher at the Eau Claire School District, most recently working at Sherman Elementary School. Cheri was a dedicated teacher to her students. Cheryl married Bill Uelmen in 1978, and raised their two children, Jeffrey and Brian Uelmen. In later years, she met partner, Bob Losby, who has been her dear friend. Cheryl’s joy was spending time with her six grandchildren, taking them outdoors on adventures to the park playing peek a boo and freeze tag, scavenger hunts, blueberry picking, and running races with them. Grandma Cheri had a special connection with each of her grandchildren and the ability to be right in the moment with them. Cheryl enjoyed being outdoors and loved to run, bike, skate and ski. She was known as a great competitive athlete and won numerous awards. Not only was she was known as an excellent athlete, she was a fitness instructor for over 20 years in the Eau Claire Area, getting her start at The Eau Claire Athletic Club and, most recently, at Gold’s Gym. Her other joy in life was spending time at the Rundman cottage in Upper Michigan on the Dead River Basin. Cheryl will be deeply missed by her two sons, Jeffrey (Emily) of Minnitrisa, MN, grandchildren, Peyton, Greyson, Reed and Gabe; and Brian (Rian) of Cottage Grove, WI, grandchildren, Brady and Blake; mother, Carolyn Rundman of Ispheming, MI; sister, Donna (Bob) Marlor of Marquette, MI; brother, Eric (Joan) Rundman of Houghton, MI; and special friend, Bob Losby. She is preceded in death by her father, Ralph Rundman. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. A Memorial Celebration for Cheri will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Tower Ridge Recreational Area, County Highway L in the Town of Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the family, which will be donated to various charities in Cheri’s honor.
