Franklin Berg Obituary

Franklin “Frank” Daniel Berg, age 84, of Eau Claire, WI, died, Friday, July 15, 2016 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona, WI. Frank was born March 3, 1932 in Eau Claire to Francis and Amanda (Johnson) Berg. Frank grew up on the north side of Eau Claire. In grade school, Frank came down with Rheumatic fever and was so ill that he missed a year of school and was not allowed to play any sports. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1951. Frank served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He liked to tell the story of being called out of line-up and complimented on his beautiful penmanship by a colonel in his first few weeks in the army. He attributed his job in the army as a teletype operator in Japan to that meeting. Frank worked for Drummond Meats after high school then took a job with the Gillette Tire Company later called the Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Company working there for over 40 years in the shipping department before retiring. Frank had two wonderful marriages and he would tell everyone that they were both the most beautiful women in the world. He was able to share 23 years together with his first wife Mary before she passed away at age 51, Mary (Knickerbocker-Young) Berg – September 1, 1961. Frank was able to enjoy 29 years of marriage to his second wife Vivian before his passing at age 84, Vivian (Bignell-Felland) Berg – January 23, 1987 Frank was an avid fisherman from a young age and had a knack for finding where the fish were hiding. He was able to see many different parts of the world including Korea and Japan during the war, many camping trips to the National Parks with his wife Mary and children Terry, Penny, Steve, and Cindy. Frank and Vivian were able to travel to Switzerland, Alaska, Nashville, and Canada by train during retirement. Frank liked the challenge of remodeling and he and Vivian bought and fixed-up nine homes to live in, in their 29 years together. Lastly one of Frank’s greatest joys was to go dancing. Polkas and waltzes were his favorite and he would go dancing at the Lucky Lady and Moose Lodge every chance he could with Vivian before ill health made it too impossible. One of his favorite sayings in later years was “I’m just passing through, just along for the ride”. Cheers to a good life. Frank is survived by his children, : Cindy (Perry) Noyes, Terry Young, Penny (Dan) Cruger, Steve (Linda) Young, Brian (Maria) Felland, Rosie (Ben) Harrison, Tami (Jeff) Isham; Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
