Matthew “Matt” G. Thompson, 31, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at his residence. He was born on June 4, 1983, in Eau Claire, WI, a son of Gary and Catherine (Claussen) Thompson. Matt attended Eau Claire North High School, graduating with the Class of 2001. Matt was involved with the Upward Bound Program at North High School, which assisted him in making his decision to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he majored in Economics and Political Science. Matt worked at Mega Express and was a member of Lake St. United Methodist Church, the Boy Scouts of America and the Eau Claire Ski Club. For several years, he sponsored, six-year-old, "Cheily" in Honduras through the ChildFund Organization. Matt loved camping and the outdoors. He also enjoyed playing the violin, piano and guitar. Matt co-wrote the movie “Wedding”, which was an Eight Foot Squid Productions that was filmed in the Chippewa Valley. Matt is survived by his parents, Gary (Bernice) Thompson of Eau Claire and Catherine (Chuck) Marohl; four brothers, Christopher, Michael, Elijah and Ethan; grandparents, Larry (Jeanne) Thompson and Mary Marohl; special aunt, Didee; and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willard (Joyce) Claussen, Ardyce (Clayton) Steinmetz, John Marohl and Roy (Erna) Jacobsen; and his cousin, Ryan Cuturia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2014, at Lake Street United Methodist Church, 337 Lake St. in Eau Claire, with Rev. Graham N. West officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, and one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Friday.
