Robert A. Tiller, age 84, of Eau Claire, WI, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Robert was born January 22, 1931, in Eau Claire, WI, to Edward J. and Ethel V. (Olson) Tiller. Bob was a graduate of Eau Claire High School and then briefly attended Luther College in Decorah, IA. In 1951, Bob married Joan Schleusner and together they had four children. They were married for 29 years. He started his work career with the Eau Claire Fire Department, after which he worked in sales for various companies, including the Minneapolis Tribune, Chippewa Valley Shopper and Leath Furniture. After retiring in 1982, he worked part-time for Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home as a Funeral Assistant and also for Holiday Travel as a driver. Bob loved the outdoors and especially “up north”. From childhood, he loved to fish Wisconsin waters, something he continued for the rest of his life. He especially enjoyed the Fall and walking the trails for partridge with his sons. Bob also enjoyed deer hunting at the deer camp near Clam Lake, although the friendships and camaraderie were more important than getting a deer. Bob loved and enjoyed nature and animals. He was very attached to the family dogs and later to the dogs of his children, spoiling them by sneaking them treats. In his later years, he enjoyed cruising Carson Park looking for deer and secretly feeding the ducks. He recently disclosed the ducks now recognized his truck, which he got a kick out of. Bob was a wonderful story teller with a great sense of humor and quick wit. He deeply loved his family as they did him. He will be greatly missed and leaves a great void. Robert is survived by his four children, Vicky (Bill) Ricci, Dan (Allison) Tiller, Julie (Dave) Zinn and Mark Tiller; four grandchildren, Matt, Jessica, Dan and Ben; four step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ethel (Olson) Tiller. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 2124 Eastridge Center in Eau Claire, with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating.
